GULLANE GETS A TASTE OF THE HIGHLANDS & ISLANDS

16th October 2023

The Hebridean Baker and The Highland Hutter Bring a Flavour of their Hebridean Home to The Bonnie Badger

On Wednesday 15th November, The Bonnie Badger will welcome The Hebridean Baker, Coinneach MacLeod and The Highland Hutter, Peter MacQueen, as the duo join forces to host an evening dinner that will bring a flavour of the Highlands & Islands to the Gullane restaurant with rooms.

Marking the launch of their brand-new books, a unique 4-course Highlands & Islands menu will celebrate Scotland’s larder, enjoyed over an evening that will be peppered with songs and stories from the two authors.

Chef Tom Kitchin and The Bonnie Badger team will collaborate with Coinneach and Peter to bring their new books to life in a menu inspired by the Scottish Highlands & Islands.  Dishes served to diners will reflect a sincere shared passion for the local larder, flavours, foraging and feasting.

Guests will also have the chance to purchase a signed copy of the two brand-new books on the night, supplied by independent bookshop, Night Owl Books from East Linton.

Coinneach MacLeod’s new book, The Hebridean Baker at Home, (Black & White Publishing, £26 hardback), will whisk readers away to his island home, where he brings delightful dishes to fill the kitchen with Hebridean Hygge. With songs, stories and beautiful photography, the book is filled with inspiring and comforting cakes and bakes.

The event will be the second time that Coinneach MacLeod, The Hebridean Baker, has collaborated with The Bonnie Badger, having hosted a sell-out Burns Inspired Afternoon Tea at the Gullane bolthole in January 2023.

Peter MacQueen will launch his debut book, The Art of Hutting: Living Off-Grid with the Highland Hutter, (Black & White Publishing, £26 hardback) on 9th November 2023.  His new book chronicles the art of hutting, offering a glimpse into nature, letting us slow down and enjoy the details of life's little things and create time for self-care, health and a sustainable way of living.  Peter is a passionate hutter and has been ever since his family built their hut on the Argyllshire coast.  Peter is the director and presenter of BBC Alba's Gardening and Lifestyle series, Gàrradh Phàdruig (Peter's Garden), alongside his partner Coinneach and their Westie dog, Seòras.

The event will begin at 7.00pm on Wednesday 15th November, with a drinks reception, followed by dinner at 7.30pm.  The event is priced at £95.00 per person for a 4-course dinner, including a welcome drink on arrival.

Guests from further afield can also choose to book a gourmet stay, enjoying one of the restaurant with rooms’ individually designed bedrooms or The Ridge Suite, followed by an award-winning breakfast the next morning, starting from £225.00 per room per night.
