Praised in House of Commons but locals are the VIPs for Loanhead restaurant in business hat-trick

12th March 2024

UK curry champion The Radhuni has achieved a hat-trick of triumphs in what it regards as its most important market - the local one.

The 120 seat Indian-Bangladeshi restaurant in Loanhead on the outskirts of Edinburgh was named Best Eatery in Midlothian and East Lothian Chamber of Commerce’s annual Business Awards. This was the third time it has captured the title following wins in 2021 and 2022.

One of only a handful of Indian-style restaurants in Scotland to be awarded an AA Rosette for culinary excellence, The Radhuni was named the UK’s top curry restaurant last October by trade magazine Curry Life.

Its latest success was praised in the UK Parliament when Midlothian MP Owen Thompson raised a motion complimenting it on a ‘wonderful accomplishment and well deserved recognition of the extraordinary experiences it provides for customers.”

Regularly named in the UK’s ‘Hot Hundred’ of curry eateries, it was voted Scotland’s Curry Restaurant of the Year in 2020 and 2021 and in 2023 took the same title in the Scottish Restaurant Awards.

Following the Award, presented at Eskmills in Musselburgh, Habibur Khan, Managing Partner of The Radhuni and its sister restaurant Itihaas in nearby Dalkeith, commented: “Although our team has accomplished many successes Scotland and UK-wide, what matters most to us are our loyal customers in and around Midlothian and East Lothian. They are our VIPs.”

He added: “It’s often harder to retain an award than to gain it in the first place. The fact that our regional business organisation has voted us the best restaurant three years out of the past four underlines our consistently high standards. It gives us fresh encouragement to redouble our efforts on behalf of the local communities we serve.”

Judges said: “All the entrants in this category were superb but we felt Radhuni goes the extra mile. Its service and involvement and support for local communities are outstanding.”
