Invitation to One Dalkeith Grand Opening

22nd April 2024

One Dalkeith are delighted to invite you along to One Dalkeith's Grand Opening at 10am on Saturday 11th of May 2024.  We will be joined by St David's brass band for a ribbon cutting ceremony, before welcoming everyone into the building for the AGM and open day.  We will be showcasing our town centre community facilities and providing fun traditional fairground games and activities.  We are looking forward to sharing this with the many contributors and supporters who have helped along the way and really hope that you will be among them.

One Dalkeith has been on quite a journey since its inception in 2015 to finally being able to hold this event.  The organisation was created when people from all parts of Dalkeith came together with a shared vision for community facilities in the town centre.  Numerous community conversations explored the vision and aims of the organisation and we explored options for bringing these to life, providing community-building activities along the way.  The toughest few years then followed, as a smaller number of dedicated volunteers focussed on a business plan and refurbishment programme for 21 Eskdaill Court, following-through on the self empowered model to deliver for the community.  As each phase of the refurbishment has been completed, we have been able to provide community facilities, such as a training kitchen and DIY workshop, and support local businesses with incubator units and a co-working space.  Most recently, we were delighted to finish the Circle theatre and launch our social enterprise, The Corner Shop Collective, which has been incredibly well received.  With the refurbishment completed, One Dalkeith is now directly delivering a programme of community activities, as well as working in partnership to provide many more.  As an anchor organisation, One Dalkeith has been delighted with how the building has really come to life through collaboration, such as our work with Dalkeith Mens Shed, who have helped install the external seating.  So, although it's been a long road to get here, it also feels very much like the beginning of an exciting new chapter!

One Dalkeith has always been by and for the community and lots of people have helped along the way, including; volunteers, staff, contractors, businesses, elected representatives, funders, complementary organisations, national bodies and more.  Now that the refurbishment is complete and every part of the building is in use, we are therefore really keen to bring folk together to share in this milestone.  Having been the Chairperson since the beginning,

We would like to express thanks to everyone who has contributed or supported One Dalkeith, and would also like to invite you to come along and enjoy the day.  A link to our Facebook event is below, which includes the times and other details, as well as a graphic invitation.
