Vici and Steve’s Winter Wedding Exceeds ‘High’ Expectations

2nd June 2020

Vici and Steve’s expectations were high as sixty of their closest friends and family traversed East Lothian to attend their winter wedding at Winton Castle. A climbing theme dominated the day, reflecting the bride and groom’s passion for hiking and climbing, which culminated in the wedding cake being cut with an ice axe that had made it to the summit of Mount Blanc (and was then licked by the groom!).

Despite a storm raging outside, the couple had a wonderful day with the intimate wedding ceremony held in Winton Castle’s beautiful and historic Drawing Room. This was followed by a drinks reception in and around the Castle, then a sumptuous wedding breakfast with a menu which included Terrine of Wild Boar and Roast Saddle of Trossachs Venison.

The evening kicked off with a spectacular fireworks display organised personally by Vici and Steve who had lots of experience helping to run local community displays.

The Scottish thread continued with toasts made with Diet Irn Bru rather than the traditional fizz, the guests napkins were decorated with a sprig of heather and a thistle, and the tables were named after Vici and Steve’s favourite Scottish bothies. Even the favours were good, old fashioned Tunnock’s tea cakes!

The day finished with Scottish Ceilidh dancing well into the wee hours.

Vici and Steve kindly share their wedding story in their own words below:

“Saturday. Was. Amazing!

“We're so grateful for the months of hard work, of detailed emails, of preparation and the effort that you put into our wedding. We felt at home at Winton Castle, which was not only down to the feel of the place but also the warmth from all the Winton staff.

“Everyone clearly loves what they do, as the quality of service was incredible. The waiting and serving was meticulous - we were so impressed with the serving choreography. The food was amazing, and your attention to detail was wonderful - having a platter of canapes just for us while we did group photos was a nice touch.

“There were so many moments that we remember, created by you or other Winton staff, and we're grateful for that. We'd be here a long time listing them all!

“And, as we mentioned, on Sunday morning, so many guests complimented Winton Castle, saying how awesome a venue it is.”
