Today MBTAG Launched a new Tourism Ideas Fund

6th September 2018

Grants of up to £5,000 are now available to tourism businesses in Midlothian and the Scottish Borders for new and innovative online bookable products or experiences.

Midlothian and Borders Tourism Action Group (MBTAG) launched the new funding stream at a special event for businesses on Wednesday 5 September at the Kingsknowes Hotel, Galashiels.

MBTAG project manager Jemma Reid said: “Through this fund, which totals £50,000, we aim to help businesses create new, innovative and memorable visitor experiences and products.

“The focus is on projects that strengthen the area’s appeal as a visitor destination, improve the quality of the visitor experience, and drive business at key times.

“We will be looking for projects which broaden the visitor offer and which will increase our competitor advantage.”

The MBTAG ideas fund will offer a discretionary grant to support businesses that have creative ideas for online bookable products to grow their business linked to four key themes:

  • Food and Drink
  • Adventure/active connection
  • History & Heritage
  • Behind Closed Doors

Businesses can apply by downloading the application form , the information leaflet and presentations and toolkit from today’s event from the MBTAG website - https://www.mbtag.uk/toolkit/

The deadline for applications is Friday 16 November. Decisions will be made within four weeks of applying.

In addition to the grant, applicants will be able to consult with the MBTAG project and Business Gateway team to help inform and shape their ideas. MBTAG will link all businesses in with an appropriate advisor who will be able to advise them on their application and ideas.

Depending on the nature of the scale of the projects, applicants may also be able to tap into specialist innovation support from Scottish Enterprise, VisitScotland and other key funders.
